CARIBOU – Charlene J. Burgay, 77, died January 26, 2022 at her Caribou residence following a period of declining health. She was born in Caribou, July 18, 1944 the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice (St. Peter) Nadeau. She was a graduate of Caribou High School, and attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Charlene was a lifelong devoted member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Burning Bush Prayer group. At the age of 16, Charlene started singing and playing guitar in the Joe Caron Band, playing for many events, weddings, and Saturday nights at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Caribou. In later years she enjoyed playing and singing at nursing homes throughout the County. For over 30 years she was the activities director at Caribou Nursing Home, and more recently at Maine Veterans Home – Caribou. She is survived by one son, Trent Burgay and wife Jasmin of Caribou, her beloved grandchildren, Evan, Ethan, and Haydon Burgay, four sisters, Irene Hess of NJ, Dolores Higgins of Biddeford, Phyllis Stewart of Caribou, and Arlene Libby of KS, many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burgay was predeceased by siblings, Francis, Henry, and Reginald Nadeau, Corinne Nadeau, Shirley Rainer, Theresa Ladner and Viola Cyr. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 9am until time of services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, from the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the spring at Old Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
