Lois M. Carlow

April 17, 1932 — October 19, 2021

Caribou - Lois Marilyn Carlow, 89, peacefully passed away surrounded by many of her family members on October 19, 2021, at the Cary Medical Center.
Lois Hale was born on April 17, 1932, in Caribou to Ethel Slipp Hale and Leon Hale. She and her two brothers Leon and Ronald grew up on the family farm on the Grimes Road surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She attended the one-room school on the hill above the farm and was taught by her Aunt Margaret Hale. She transitioned to school in “town” for high school, graduating in 1950. Shortly thereafter she met and fell in love with Robert (Bob) Carlow. They were married on June 12, 1952, and began a sixty-nine year romance. Lois and Bob worked hard to raise their five children: Richard McNeal of Presque Isle, Danny (wife Marcia) Carlow of Calais, Kerri (husband Dana) Robinson of Rochester, NH, Beth Carlow of Bangor, and Philip (wife Leslie) Carlow of Easton. Lois loved spending time with her nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She delighted in knowing what each child and grandchild was doing and remembered the details amazingly well.
Lois was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She especially enjoyed taking part in the church’s Living Christmas Tree choirs each holiday season. She participated in the church’s Ladies’ Mission Circle groups and helped raise funds and spread awareness of work on the Christian mission field around the world. Lois was a long-time member of Women’s Home Extension and faithfully attended meetings and special events for many years.

Lois and Bob bought the home of their dreams on the Fort Fairfield Road in 1966 and made it a place of welcome to any neighbor or friend any time. Lois loved nothing more than to tune in a Red Sox game and work on the Bangor Daily News crossword puzzle (using a pen of course) in the comfort of her living room.
Friends may visit the family, 12 noon, Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, until time of service which will be held at 2 p.m. from the funeral home with Pastor Michael Sullivan officiating. Interment will be in the Bubar Cemetery.
