Byron D. Skidgel

CARIBOU – Byron Donald Skidgel, 74, died October 8, 2023 at Caribou. He was born in Dexter, July 25, 1949 the son of the late Donald and Phyllis (Grant) Skidgel. He was a graduate of Washburn High School, and served with the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. He married Susan Kirchner on December 30, 1972. Byron was a self-employed mechanic and then was employed for over 14 years by the Maine Military Authority at Loring. He was a member of Caribou Lodge #170 A.F. & A.M., and the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion. Byron was an avid motorcyclist, and was a member of the Widow Son’s Motorcycle Group, the Harley Owner’s Group, as well as the Pine State Motorcycle Club. Surviving in addition to his wife Susan Skidgel of Caribou, are sons, Donald B. Skidgel and wife Hope of Caribou, Chris B. Skidgel and partner Janice of Mars Hill, his daughter, Amanda Skidgel and wife Billie Jo of Limestone, sisters, Bonnie Clark and husband Edward of Hawthorne, FL, and Barbara Bragg and husband Winston of Washburn, grandchildren, Taylor Thibodeau, Chrissy Skidgel, Taylor Skidgel, Sarah Skidgel, Christopher Skidgel Jr., Daniel Skidgel, Chelsea Moulton, Symone Malbaurn, and Cameron Murphy, 4 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Gail Dodd, two brothers-in-law, Jeff Fitzherbert and Rick Kirchner, many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 6PM to 8PM. Funeral services will be held 1PM Friday, October 13, 2023 at the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Steve Straubel officiating. Interment with military honors will be conducted at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
