Bonnie L. Weatherhead, age 79, passed away February 18, 2026, after a brief illness. She was born in Caribou on June 11, 1946, the youngest daughter of Grover and Loretta (Brown) White. Bonnie grew up on the family’s potato farm in Caribou and graduated from Caribou High School in 1964.
On June 11, 1965, she married William “Bill” Weatherhead, and over the next 56 years they built a life centered around family and service to others. In 1966, they welcomed their daughter, Martha, who returned home in 2022 to provide care and companionship to her mother, especially in the years since Bill’s passing.
Bonnie devoted her career to helping others, working as a social worker at Cary Medical Center, Caribou Nursing Home, and Elder Independence of Maine. She was an active member of the New Sweden Extension and volunteered many hours with the Northern Maine Fair and Meals on Wheels. Bonnie was also a gifted gardener, a loyal friend, and a steady presence in her community.
Above all, she was known for her warmth, love, and devotion to her family—especially as “Baw Baw” to Noah, Nicholas, Evan, Reid, and most recently, Parker Francis Margeson. Her legacy lives on through the lessons she passed down: compassion, generosity, community service, and the importance of watching out for one another and loving deeply.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Martha; nieces Alana Margeson (Erich) of Westmanland; Kerry Weatherhead-Shenoy (Nithin) of Locust Valley, NY; and Darryl Weatherhead (Richard Mason) of Durham, NC; sister-in-law Sally Smith of Pensacola, FL; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Betsy Weatherhead of Durham, NC; and great-nephews she raised as grandchildren: Noah Margeson (Emma) of Perth-Andover, N.B., Nicholas Margeson, Evan Margeson, and Reid Margeson of Westmanland.
The family thanks the staff of Cary Medical Center and the Aroostook House of Comfort for their outstanding care. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2PM to 4PM at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou. Graveside services will be held in the spring.
