Caribou

Bertha May Libby, 87, died November 2, 2025 at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou following a period of declining health. She was born in Caribou, May 4, 1938 the daughter of the late Wilfred and Corinne (LaChance) Martin Sr. Bertha attended the Holy Rosary Catholic School and was a graduate of Caribou High School. She attended beauty school in Augusta and received her beautician license degree. Bertha was employed as a beautician in her home for over 60 years. She married Beverly Libby on July 1, 1965. Mrs. Libby was a lifetime member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a business and professional women's organization member, a Catholic Order of Foresters, and a professional beauticians organization member. In 1968 she and Bev built their home on Sweden Street in Caribou, and then in 1970 they built their camp on South Shore Road on Madawaska Lake where they spent many enjoyable years. In later years, Bertha took courses at UMPI in photography and painting, becoming proficient in both hobbies. One of Bertha's greatest delights was talking and visiting; she looked forward to seeing all of the group at McDonalds.

Surviving in addition to her husband Bev of Caribou are her children, Scott Bourgoin and wife Dee of Boise, Idaho, Peter Bourgoin and wife Judy of Fair Oaks, CA, Steven Libby and wife Pam of Farmville, VA. She is also survived by a brother, Wilfred Martin Jr. of Caribou, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Bertha was predeceased by her first husband, Lawrence Bourgoin, 2 sisters, Phylis Jacques Ouellette and Cecile Bell. 

Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 6PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 11AM at the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Old Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A time of continued fellowship and refreshment will be held following the services.
