Norman Beaupre

       CARIBOU and CUMBERLAND FORESIDE - Norman J. Beaupre, 90, died March 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, after a brief illness.

       Norman was born in Caribou, on April 5, 1928, the son of the late John and Evelyn Beaupre.  He graduated from Caribou High School in 1946 and Ricker College in 1950.

       Norman was an Air Force veteran, serving in the occupation forces in 1947 and part of 1948 in Tokyo, Japan.  He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.  He was later recalled to Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina, in 1950, when the Korean War started. 

       Norman worked at Loring Air Force Base in the 42nd Civil Engineering from 1952 until his retirement in 1986. He was a life member of the VFW in Caribou and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. 

       After retirement, he enjoyed working around his camp at Little Madawaska Lake, and canoeing with his wife, Jackie. The two of them often frequented local eateries, including Stan’s at Madawaska Lake. He enjoyed bowling, his daily newspaper, playing cribbage, and following the Boston Red Sox.  He was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

        Norman was a prince of a man in so many ways.  He was devoted to his family, an interesting and alert conversationalist, a lover of history and music, and a thoughtful, understanding soul.  He was a patient, compassionate and kind father. He had a lovely way about him. 

       He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Jacquelyn, and his brother, Cecil.  He is survived by three daughters:  Lisa Keyes of Bucksport, and her husband Dale, Jill Coale of Cumberland, and her husband, John, and Mary McDonough and her husband Kevin of South Portland.  He is also survived by his grandson, Marc Leclerc of Bangor, and granddaughters Aimee Nilsson of Brewer, Megan Coale of New York City, and Caitlin McDonough of South Portland.  He leaves three great-grandsons, Ethan and Nolan Leclerc of Bangor, and Kamron Nilsson of Brewer.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Jane Beaupre of Scarborough.

       His daughters wish to thank the people of Ledgeview Assisted Living, who cared for and loved Norman during his two years there. Funeral arrangements are being planned for the spring, at a date and time to be announced by the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.
