Albert (Bear) Dionne Jr.

November 24, 1948 — August 10, 2022

CARIBOU – Albert “Bear” Dionne Jr., 73, died August 10, 2022 in the comfort of his home in Caribou following a period of declining health. He was born in Van Buren, November 24, 1948 the son of Albert Sr. and Roseanne (Lavigne) Dionne. Albert was raised in Grand Isle, and graduated from Van Buren High School. He then attended the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. Bear worked for Farm Service agency, a division of the United States Department of Agriculture for many years, retiring as the county executive director. Many of his hobbies included those that allowed him to enjoy being outside; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and gardening. He took great pride in his vegetable garden and enjoyed sharing what he grew with his family and friends. Bear was never one to be idle. He was always working on a project at home, at the camp, or on one of his many woodworking projects. He was a third-degree member of Fred V. Brescia Council No. 1870 Knights of Columbus, a member of the Caribou Snowmobile Club and was also a past Little League Coach. He was an animal lover, and a big fan of the Red Sox, rarely missing a game.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 51 years, Ruth (Pelletier) Dionne of Caribou, are their three children, Matthew Dionne and wife Meaghan of Wallingford, CT, Jennifer Plante and husband Roger, and Elizabeth Quinones and significant other Ken Griffeth all of Caribou, five beloved grandchildren, SSgt Cameron Hill and wife Vivian of Riverview, FL, Aidan Plante, Ari Plante, Leo Quinones, and Rose Quinones all of Caribou, and his sister, Cecile Mackenzie. He is also survived by several sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Albert was predeceased by his parents, and by 7 of his siblings. Aurele, Leo, Victor, Omer and Reno Dionne, Georgianne Sirois and Florence Trusty.

Friends may visit with the family at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 6PM until 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, at 11AM. Friends may also visit with the family before the Mass at the funeral home from 9:30AM until 10:30AM.  Interment will follow in the New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
