Arlene (Brown) Ward

Arlene (Brown) Ward, 96, of Caribou, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on April 25, 1930, in Caribou, Arlene was the beloved daughter of Clarence Brown and Phyllis (Ginn Brown) Baker. She was known throughout her life for her kindness and deep love for family and friends.

On August 22, 1950, Arlene married the love of her life, Reginald Ward. They lived in Limestone for 14 years before moving to Woodland in 1964, where they took ownership of her parents’ family farm. Later in life, they also lived in Raymond, Maine, and Presque Isle, Maine, to be closer to family.

Arlene took great pride in her work and truly enjoyed spending time with people. Early in her career, she served as secretary to the principal at Limestone High School. In 1965, she worked for Caribou Farms for about a year before beginning a long career as a bookkeeper at Agway in Caribou. She was also a devoted homemaker and remained deeply proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Outside of work, Arlene enjoyed square dancing, knitting, reading, and writing in her journals. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, and she always put her family first.

Arlene is survived by her son, M. Jeffrey Ward; her daughter, Karyn Knights, and her husband, Rodney Knights; her daughter-in-law, Alexis Ward; three grandchildren, Erin McShea and her husband, Richard, Zachary Knights and his wife, Nicole, and Megan Knights; and three great-grandchildren, Sydney McShea, Sarah McShea, and Evangeline Knights. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald Ward; her son, Larry Ward, a son-in-law, Rick Elias; and her parents, Phyllis (Ginn Brown) Baker and Clarence Brown.

Those who knew Arlene will remember her genuine smile and caring conversations. Her love, wisdom, and compassion will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A graveside service will be held on August 22 at 11:00am at Webster Ward Cemetery in Limestone. A celebration of life will follow immediately at Par and Grill in Caribou. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gray Memorial United Methodist Church in Caribou, if desired.
