Alice Conroy

CARIBOU-Alice Conroy, 79, passed away unexpectedly December 6, 2010, at Caribou. She was born in Woodland, Aroostook County, March 3, 1931 the daughter of the late Bennie and Ida (Newbegin) Haines. Alice grew up on the family farm owned by her parents in Woodland and later in Caribou when the family moved there. Like many farm girls of the era, she helped in the fields with the potato crop and in the house caring for her younger siblings. At different times in her life, Alice worked at Cary Hospital, W.T. Grant, Ames, and Mecon. Alice is survived by her sons Douglas Conroy and wife, Norma Creel, and Danny Conroy and wife Karen, all of Caribou: her grandchildren Jessica Creel Gualano and her husband Dan of Asheville North Carolina, Aaron Conroy of Presque Isle, and Corey Conroy of Caribou; her brother Mack and his wife Phyllis Haines of Caribou; her sisters Laura Moren of Minneapolis Minnesota, Lulu and her husband Dale Sharp of Caribou, Shirley and her husband Winfield Tarbox of Wolcott Connecticut, Gladys and her husband Larry Pelletier of Caribou; her sister-in-law, Norma Haines of Caribou; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by an infant brother, Daniel Haines, her brother, Duncan Haines, and her former husband, Graydon Conroy. . The family would like to thank the staff at the Caribou Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Alice while she was a resident there. A date for a spring interment service will be announced at a later date by the Mockler Funeral Home Caribou.
