February 12, 1952 — February 3, 2023

CARIBOU – Alan A. (Butch) Willey, 70, passed away on February 3, 2023 in Bradenton, FL of unexpected complications following a brief illness.  He was born in Caribou, Maine on February 12, 1952, the son of the late Loomis and Mary (Murphy) Willey. Alan graduated from Caribou High School in 1970, enrolled at the Naval Academy Prep School, and later attended the University of Maine at Orono. He also served in the United States Navy for 3 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam where he earned a National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning to Maine, he worked alongside his father at the family-owned business of Highway Tire. Alan dedicated decades of service to his profession, where he was known through all parts of the County for his honest and sincere demeanor. Anyone who knew Alan can attest to his humble nature, deep generosity, and a love to make others smile.   Alan was able to extend his kindness across communities throughout Maine as he loyally served as a member of the Caribou Lodge 170 A.F. & A.M.  We share fond and silly memories of Alan delighting countless children as his alter-ego “Retread”.  In his 15 years as an Anah Shriner Klown, Alan always showed himself to be the generous, accepting, and gregarious man we will forever hold in our memories.

Alan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte (White) Willey of Caribou, daughters Krystal Willey of Durham, Tiffany and husband Ken Vencile of Nobleboro, and granddaughter Autumn Vencile; one sister Tammy and husband Kenny Albert, and their children Ginny Corrigan and John Albert; one brother Scott and wife Cecile Willey, and their children Nicholas and Tyler Willey; a sister-in-law Nadine (White) Alshen and husband Eric Alshen, and their sons Matthew and Lucas Alshen; sister-in-law Eleanor (White) St. Peter and husband Dick St. Peter, and their children Kirk and Vicki St. Peter; and many cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
