CARIBOU – Marcia L. DeMerchant, 77, died February 2, 2021 at Caribou following an extended illness.  She was born in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada, July 19, 1943 the daughter of the late and Charles and Doris (Spear) Barnes, Jr.  She attended Eastport schools and was a 1961 graduate of Caribou High School.  She married David DeMerchant August 20, 1963.  Marcia was employed by several area retailers and was a long-time faithful member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. Marcia was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Surviving in addition to her husband of over 57 years, David of Caribou, are her children David DeMerchant Jr. and wife Robin of Standish, Denise Levesque and husband Dale, and Dale DeMerchant and wife Tina all of Bangor, and Douglas DeMerchant of Mt Vernon, WA., two brothers Charles Barnes and wife Donna, and Paul Barnes and wife Paula all of Caribou, a sister-in-law, Diana Adamson of Auburndale, Fl., brother-in-law Donald DeMerchant of Caribou, a sister-in-law Bette Olson and husband Tom of Crouseville, her beloved grandchildren, April, David III, Courtney, Anna, Jordan, Alexa, Cody and Ethan, great-grandchildren Kodie, Logan, Sam, Amelia, Zoe, many nephews and cousins.  A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced by Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.  Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. DeMerchant may do so through the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 69, Caribou, Maine 04736 or the Maine Alzheimer’s Association, 383 US Route One #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
